Day 1: Honor the Saving Name

Pray the full principal prayer, thanking Christ for taking the Name of Jesus for our salvation.

Principal Prayer for Each Day

Pray this same prayer each day after the day's meditation.

Most Sweet Jesus, Who didst deign to shed Thy Precious Blood and to receive the Name of Jesus on the day of Thy Circumcision as the pledge of our Redemption, and Who dost delight to be invoked under that most Holy Name: we humbly implore Thee, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, to grant us a deep and lively devotion to Thy most Holy Name, and to make us worthy to receive the graces and indulgences which Thy Holy Church bestows upon those who honour it.

O Lord Jesus Christ, Thou Who art the Saviour of the world and the Eternal Son of God, grant that the sweetness of Thy most Holy Name may ever be on our lips, in our hearts, and made manifest in our lives, so that we may flee from all sin and evil, and cling to Thee alone, Who art our only hope and our sovereign good.

We adore Thee, O Eternal Word, made flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary; we adore Thee, Who wast circumcised on this eighth day according to the Law, and Who didst freely take upon Thyself the yoke of the Old Law in order to free us from all bondage of sin. We bless and praise that Holy Name which is above every name, the Name before which every knee in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth must bow.

O Holy Name of Jesus, be our defence against every snare of the enemy, our consolation in every tribulation, our strength in every temptation. Let that Name which causeth the demons to tremble be ever our refuge. Let that Name which bringeth peace to the sinner be ever our hope. Let that Name which is salvation itself be ever the seal upon our hearts.

Most Holy Name of Jesus, we consecrate to Thee this novena of prayer and devotion. We offer each of these nine days in reparation for all the blasphemies and irreverences committed against Thy Holy Name throughout the world. We beg Thee to restore reverence for Thy Name in the hearts of men, to increase devotion to Thee among all the faithful, and to bring sinners to conversion through the power of Thy Holy Name.

O Jesus, Thou hast said that whatsoever we shall ask the Father in Thy Name, He will give to us: in Thy most Holy Name, therefore, we ask our Heavenly Father for the following graces and intentions, which we confide to Thy Sacred Heart during this novena:

Pause here for your intention.

Grant, O Lord Jesus, that we may live so as to be worthy of Thy Holy Name, that we may at the hour of our death call upon that Name with confidence and love, and that we may praise and glorify that Name for all eternity in the company of the Angels and Saints in Heaven.

Most Holy Name of Jesus, save us. Most Holy Name of Jesus, protect the Church. Most Holy Name of Jesus, have mercy on the dying. Most Holy Name of Jesus, be our joy in life and our comfort in death.

Amen.

V. Blessed be the Name of Jesus now and forever. R. Blessed be the Name of Jesus now and forever.

Let us pray: O God, Who didst appoint Thine only-begotten Son to be the Saviour of mankind, and didst command that His Name should be called Jesus: mercifully grant that we, who venerate His Holy Name on earth, may enjoy the vision of His countenance in Heaven. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.
