God of mercy, you chose a tax collector, Saint Matthew, to share the dignity of the Apostles.

In doing so, You showed us that with you, all things are possible, and that though we are sinners, we too can answer Your noble call to evangelize the world.

By St Matthew’s example and prayers help us to follow Christ and remain faithful in Your service.

In particular we ask, through his intercession, for

Dear Saint Matthew, in your Gospel you portray Jesus as the longed-for Messiah who fulfilled the Prophets of the Old Covenant and as the new Lawgiver who founded the Church of the New Covenant.

Obtain for us the grace to see Jesus living in His Church and to follow His teachings in our lives on earth, so that we may live forever with Him in heaven.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
