St. Joseph of Cupertino Novena (General Saint Form)
Quick answer
At a glance
Prayer source
This edition follows the general saint novena printed in Father Joseph F. Stedman’s Triple Novena Manual (1943), with St. Joseph of Cupertino named as its directions allow.
The central prayer uses the public-domain English wording in The Family Prayer-Book (1839), printed p. 66, with Joseph of Cupertino inserted for the chosen saint. Its abbreviated conclusion is written out, capitalization is normalized, and the opening versicle is newly translated from the traditional Latin. Stedman directs nine consecutive days on printed p. 2 and gives three sets of Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be in the general form. This is a different devotional edition from the previously cited Intercede novena, which has separate daily petitions. It does not reproduce those missing petitions or claim to be Fontaine’s 1897 novena.

General Saint Novena Prayer
Pray this same prayer each day for all 9 days.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and all the Saints intercede with God for us.
V. The Lord hath glorified His saints. R. And hath heard them crying unto Him.
Let us pray.
Preserve us, O Lord, we beseech Thee, from all dangers of body and soul: and by the intercession of glorious and blessed Mary, the ever Virgin Mother of God, of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, of blessed Joseph of Cupertino and of all Thy Saints, grant us, in Thy mercy, health and peace; that all adversities and errors being removed, Thy Church may serve Thee with a pure and undisturbed devotion. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
St. Joseph of Cupertino, pray for us.
Pray each of the three sets below once. Together they give three Our Fathers, three Hail Marys, and three Glory Bes.
First time
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Second time
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Amen.
Third time
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Amen.

About this devotion
Why is the prayer the same each day?
This edition uses an older general saint novena, which names the saint whose intercession is sought and repeats the same form for nine days. It differs from the previously cited modern edition with changing daily petitions.
When should I begin the St. Joseph of Cupertino novena?
For his September 18 feast, a nine-day preparation runs September 9 through September 17. You can also begin nine days before an examination or pray at another time of need.
Can I pray this novena for someone taking exams?
Yes. You may offer the novena for your own studies or for another student. Ask for recollection, perseverance, and the grace to use learning well. Prayer accompanies the work of preparation; it is not a promise of an examination result.
