The Church revised indulgence discipline in 1967. These notes report the grants in this older edition and do not establish their current availability.
An indulgence is the remission of temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven. A partial indulgence remits part of that punishment; a plenary indulgence remits all of it.
In these older grants, days and years express the equivalent of the Church’s ancient penances. They do not count days or years taken off a stay in Purgatory. A “quarantine” means a period of forty days of penance.
