Magloire was associated with St. Samson and the early Church in Wales and Brittany. Butler describes his service at Dol, later retirement to Jersey, and the movement of his relics to Léhon and Paris.
The reading
ⓘ Butler source
Alban Butler, The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints, Volume X (October), Thomas Richardson and Son, Derby, for the Catholic Book Society, 1846; October 24, “St Magloire, Bishop and Confessor,” pp. 619-621.
Magloire belonged to the circle of Welsh and Breton churchmen associated with St. Samson. Butler describes them as fellow pupils of St. Illtud and companions in missionary work in Brittany. Magloire succeeded Samson in the community of Dol and in episcopal service.
In later life he relinquished that charge and sought greater retirement. The traditional account takes him first to a solitary place on the mainland and then to Jersey, where a community gathered under his direction. Butler describes a severe rule of life marked by fasting, prayer, and a growing desire to remain in the church during his last months.
His memory travelled beyond the places in which he had lived. Butler follows the movement of his relics from Jersey to Léhon and later to Paris during the insecurity caused by raids. Churches and religious houses that received those relics preserved his name. The chronology of his early life is not firmly established by this short account; October 24 is the day on which Butler places his commemoration.

An original Novena Regina reading adapted and summarized from the cited 1846 edition of Alban Butler. This is not a transcription of Butler’s words.
This reading follows the traditional life summarized by Butler without assigning an exact year to the foundation in Jersey.
