The reading
ⓘ Butler source
Alban Butler, The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints, Volume XII (December), Thomas Richardson and Son, Derby, for the Catholic Book Society, 1846; December 11, “Ss Fuscian, Victoricus, and Gentian, Martyrs,” p. 248.
Fuscian and Victoricus travelled through Gaul preaching the Christian faith. Butler associates their mission with Thérouanne before their return toward Amiens, where Christians were suffering persecution.
They stayed with Gentian, who wished to become a disciple of Christ. He told them of Quintin’s recent martyrdom. The two missionaries and their host were soon arrested and put to death for the faith.
Butler records the later discovery and translation of their relics to the cathedral of Amiens. Their short remembrance joins the work of preaching with the hospitality that received the preachers. The notice follows the acts and chronicles cited in the source.
