Brief life
Joachim is honored as the father of the Blessed Virgin Mary and therefore the grandfather of Our Lord according to the flesh. His place is hidden but beautiful: with St. Anne, he stands at the beginning of the family through whom God prepared the coming of Christ. The Church's devotion sees in that vocation a life of prayer, fidelity, and quiet readiness for a grace whose full meaning Joachim could not yet see.
Scripture does not name Mary's parents. The familiar names Joachim and Anne, together with the fuller domestic story told about them, come from apocryphal writings such as the Protevangelium of James rather than from a firm early biography. The account therefore keeps the details in their proper uncertain place. Christian devotion may reverently retain pious beliefs that do not conflict with the faith, but it need not turn them into false certainty. The secure center remains enough: the Church honors Joachim as the father of Our Lady and remembers the hidden holiness of the home from which the Mother of God came.
Historical note
Almost nothing certain can be known about St. Joachim personally, because the fuller biographical details come from apocryphal tradition rather than firm early history.
