Brief life
Zeno of Verona has the kind of life that becomes richer the closer it stays to ordinary pastoral reality. He is not remembered only as a name on an early episcopal list, but as a preaching bishop whose surviving discourses still let the reader hear the concerns of a real Christian city taking shape. Zeno baptizes converts, fights Arianism, forms clergy, addresses virgins and households, and even corrects the awkward excesses that can creep into funerals and common meals.
It feels alive because it is full of actual church life. He is poor in his own habits, generous toward others, and zealous without abstraction. What emerges is not a distant antique saint, but a bishop who governed, taught, corrected, and helped Verona become more recognizably Christian in practice.
