St Justin Martyr
Justin Martyr is remembered as philosopher, apologist, and martyr. His life shows an honest search for truth fulfilled in Christ and defended with calm courage before the Roman authorities.

Brief life
Justin was born a pagan and came to Christ by way of a serious intellectual search. That quest remains central to his life. Trained in philosophy and disappointed by one school after another, Justin wanted truth, not reputation, and his restlessness matters because it shows how little he was willing to settle for half-light. The famous conversation with the old Christian who pointed him beyond the poets and philosophers to the prophets and to Christ gave direction to that search. After conversion Justin did not despise reason; he placed it under revelation and spent his strength defending the faith in public.
He wrote apologies to the Roman authorities, argued against pagan slanders, and showed educated hearers that Christianity was not an enemy of truth but its fulfillment. The end of his life is as memorable as the beginning. In the trial record before the prefect Rusticus, Justin answers plainly, refuses sacrifice, and accepts death without display. The philosopher's cloak and the martyr's crown belong to the same man. He sought wisdom honestly, found it in Christ, and would not deny it when the state demanded surrender.
