Mitrius is remembered as an ancient martyr at Aix in Provence. Butler places his suffering in the persecution under Diocletian and points to the honourable remembrance of him in St. Gregory of Tours.

The brief notice praises his constancy through suffering but does not supply a reliable detailed trial narrative. Butler expressly says that no authentic acts of his martyrdom had reached his time.

He also records Mitrius as principal patron of Aix. The short account preserves that local devotion and the older witness to the martyr, without adding speeches, a detailed manner of execution or an exact death date that the cited passage does not establish.

Historical note

An original Novena Regina reading adapted and summarized from the cited pre-1962 sources. This is not a transcription of Butler’s words.

Butler’s notice is brief and explicitly states that no authentic martyr acts survive. The patronage concerns Aix in Provence; no wider regional patronage is inferred.
